Released previously in the series is The Survivor, which ranked first in the New York Times’s list of bestselling Mitch Rapp-series novels. It is thus clear why the release of Order to Kill, which is the direct sequel of The Survivor, is highly anticipated. Just like its predecessors, Order to Kill is expected to offer constant thrills in every stage of its storyline.

Order to Kill sends Rapp in a dangerous quest to prevent a terrorist group from seizing nukes originally stashed by the Pakistani government. In his mission, he has to face not only the terrorist threat, but also that of the ambitious Russian President Maxim Vladimirovich Krupin, who sees terrorist’s acquisition of the nukes, and consequently their explosion, will benefit Russia politically and economically. Rapp is forced to fight a professional killer sent by the Russian government, Grisha Azarov. The fight between the two operatives makes up the most thrilling parts of the novel.

The novel is set in contemporary era, with ISIS as the terrorist group the novel refers to. This is obviously something that is still rare in both thriller novels and thriller films. Kyle Mills is especially resourceful when it comes to dealing with small details. Rapp’s clandestine mission and his ruse in the terrorist’s territories are narrated so exhaustively that there is almost no small detail that is left for readers to guess. Every character, even the least important one, is described in full detail as if they are not less important than those with bigger roles.

When you read about Rapp’s partner Scott Coleman and the mechanic Craig Bailer, you will see that every character has their own background story. They are real people with real life and not just empty and inessential characters that are included in the novel only to fill gaps here and there. Because every detail of the storyline is made lifelike and believable, the entire novel ultimately feels so real and engrossing.

Order to Kill is not like any other action novels. It is a novel that promises full thrills and zero frills. Almost every part of it is prepared so meticulously that no part of it will bore you stiff when reading it.
